Mary Faith McCormick, 33, a sixth-grade language arts teacher at Siloam Springs Intermediate School, was arrested August 13 2014 and accused of exchanging sexually explicit photographs with a 13-year-old boy on the messaging app Snapchat. McCormick was sentenced in July 2015 to 8 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. She will have to serve at least two years before she will be eligible for parole. She must abide by a suspended sentence agreement for 12 years after her release from prison.

A former teacher at Cabot Junior High School North was sentenced to six years in prison following pleading guilty last month to more than a dozen counts of sexual assault involving a juvenile student. Stracener was arrested in February 2012 after police received a report from a student’s mother about inappropriate contact, including over 40 text messages over a three day period. During an interview with authorities, the victim admitted to sexual contact and intercourse with the teacher at least 13 times. The sentence was for 15 years in prison with 9 years suspended. Stracener must serve at least two years before becoming eligible for parole.
